How AdSense Works, Getting Approved, and How I Use It to Support My Websites

What Is Google AdSense?

When you visit a blog, news site, or even educational website, you often see small ads placed throughout the page. Many of these ads are powered by Google AdSense. AdSense is a platform that lets website owners display ads and earn revenue when visitors view or interact with them. It’s one of the most common and straightforward ways to monetize a website.

Running a website has real costs like domain registration, hosting fees, security certificates, and maintenance. AdSense provides a way for websites to stay afloat while offering content for free to readers. It’s not some “get rich quick” method — it’s just a small way for sites to earn a bit in exchange for the work that goes into keeping them running.

How the AdSense Approval Process Works

Getting approved for AdSense isn’t instant. You need to build a proper website first. Google checks if your site has good, original content, a clean design, fast loading times, easy navigation, and important legal pages like Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, and Contact Us.

If your site is empty, spammy, or just copies content from somewhere else, it will get rejected. They want to work with sites that provide real value to visitors. You also have to be at least 18 years old to run your own AdSense account.

After applying, Google usually takes anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks to manually review your site. If everything checks out, you’ll get approved.

But even after approval, there’s another step. To make sure you’re a real person and not setting up fake accounts, Google mails a physical letter to your home address. This letter has a PIN inside. You have to log into your AdSense account and enter the PIN to verify your address.

After address verification, you also need to link a bank account. Google sends a very small deposit — usually just a few cents — to your bank. You confirm the exact amount inside AdSense to verify the connection. After that, you’re officially ready to get paid.

Google only issues payments once you reach $100 or equivalent in your local currency. After hitting that threshold, your earnings are deposited straight into your bank account every month. If you don’t reach $100 in a month, your earnings roll over until you do.

How AdSense Is Used to Support Websites

Once your AdSense account is fully active, you can create different ad units — banners at the top, rectangular ads in sidebars, in-article ads inside posts, and so on. You decide where ads go. Google’s system automatically shows ads that are relevant to the visitor, which makes them more likely to engage without feeling completely random.

There are two main ways you earn money from ads. First, by impressions, which is when people just view the ads while browsing your site. Second, by clicks, which is when someone actually clicks an ad. Clicks pay more, but impressions add up over time too if your site gets good traffic.

How much you earn depends on factors like your niche, where your audience lives, how much advertisers are bidding for your topics, and the type of ads shown. Some niches, like finance or tech, can pay higher than others like memes or entertainment.

How I Implement AdSense on My Websites

I run AdSense ads on two of my websites: TechsCurrent and Novo Learner.

TechsCurrent is a platform where I cover technology news, explainers, tutorials, and reviews. The site aims to simplify the digital world for readers without making it feel overwhelming. On TechsCurrent, I use AdSense to help cover hosting, domain renewals, upgrades, and content creation costs. Ads are placed carefully — usually in sidebars and between article sections — so they blend in but don’t annoy readers.

Novo Learner is focused on education and free learning resources. On Novo Learner, every dollar from ads and donations is used not just to keep the site running but also to support educational initiatives worldwide. Whether it’s funding free courses, distributing study materials, or expanding access to digital tools, the money directly benefits learning programs.

On both websites, ads are limited to a few smart spots, avoiding clutter. I don’t believe in stuffing pages with pop-ups or ads everywhere. Keeping the site clean is more important than chasing every penny.

Setting Up and Managing Payments

Inside your AdSense dashboard, you can set payment preferences. You choose your bank account, set your tax information, and select your payment threshold if you want a higher one than $100.

Payments are processed around the 21st of each month for the previous month’s earnings. Google automatically deposits the funds into your verified bank account. You don’t need to manually request the payment as long as you meet the minimum balance.

You also have access to full earnings reports, showing you daily income, performance by ad type, and how different pages are doing. This helps with making smart decisions like moving ads around or improving your content.

Things to Keep in Mind When Using AdSense

AdSense has strict policies. Clicking your own ads or encouraging others to do it can get your account banned permanently. Also, misleading placement of ads (like disguising ads as download buttons) is not allowed.

It’s better to focus on building real traffic with quality content. Google values long-term trustworthy sites over ones trying to cheat the system. Violating policies can not only ban your account but also hurt your site’s reputation.

You should also know that income from AdSense isn’t consistent at first. Traffic might go up and down, ad rates change based on seasons (for example, advertisers spend more around holidays), and competition in your niche can affect earnings.

Still, for steady websites with real audiences, AdSense remains one of the most accessible and reliable ways to monetize content without scaring away readers.

Conclusion

AdSense is a simple but powerful tool for website owners to earn income while keeping their sites free for everyone to access. It requires setting up your site properly, getting approved, verifying your identity and address, linking your bank account, and placing ads thoughtfully.

As mentioned earlier, on my platforms TechsCurrent and Novo Learner, AdSense plays a key role in keeping things online and growing — whether it’s delivering tech tutorials or expanding educational access.

If you’re serious about building a real website, understanding how AdSense works is definitely something worth learning. When used correctly, it can help support your projects and let you focus more on creating content that matters.
